Integran Awarded Patent for Multilayer Plating/Graded Plating

Yesterday, we released the following press release regarding additional patent protection awarded to Integran:

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 21, 2013) - Toronto-based Integran Technologies Inc. (Integran) today announced further advances in its electrodeposition technology for forming grain-refined coatings and layers.

Integran's layered and graded material technology is now protected in Europe by EP 2,220,270, entitled "METALLIC STRUCTURES WITH VARIABLE PROPERTIES", which issued on Jul 17, 2013; further adding to the global intellectual property (IP) protection for this technology which already includes Canada and China.

Integran's President & CEO Gino Palumbo stated, "Modern lightweight and durable articles require a variety of physical properties which are often not achievable with monolithic materials. Materials with variable properties, i.e., a variation of one or more properties within levels or layers, and/or with graded properties can satisfy requirements for different physical properties in specific locations on a part. Our patented multi-layer and grading technology is a further step to broaden the use of our core technology for providing engineered coatings and layers meeting the requirements for modern parts to maximize their performance and minimize their weight without the need to subject the part to several sequential production processes. Integran's novel process is based on modulating selected process parameters during the electrodeposition process in a single tank to cause a variation in deposit properties throughout the depth of the deposit but also along the length and/or width of the deposit while providing deposits up to 5 cm thick. This technology is expected to further broaden the application of Integran's electrodeposition technology in numerous application areas including, transportation, sporting goods, aerospace and defense."

Integran uses nanocrystalline metal coatings to improve the strength, stiffness, durability and fatigue performance of polymers, composites, metals and even to make freestanding parts (like erosion/abrasion strips).
